My portrait of my little brother, Mateo. Who is not so little anymore but stays 10 years old in my heart. For one reason or another, he is someone I barely photograph. He means the stars and the moon to me. As children we built forts and played games all day. As teenagers we were snobs about music. We thought we were the only ones who loved what we loved. I can still hear his punky jokes about how I used to wear skeleton tshirts. As the days go by and the years get shorter, I realize more and more how grateful I am to have him in my life. And although we live oceans apart, I can always count on him to make me laugh when I feel like crap. I admire him because of everything he is.

This is my portrait of Bree who I met many years ago in a Californian restaurant where we were both waiters. She is seen here in her kitchen during sunset. The light was squeezing through the blinds and lying still on her face. I have not seen her in a long time, but I remember how delicately she played her harp. It was mesmerizing. Sometimes you cross paths with people for reasons you don't fully understand until later in your life. She will always sit still in my heart.
