Sport Relief and BBC Radio 5 Live Event 2016

Footballing legends Alan Shearer and Robbie Savage took part in BBC Radio 5 Live ‘Battle of the Five-A-Sides’ for Sport Relief from March 3-5 2016 in Media City Salford, Manchester.

Supported by the Premier League, the three day five-a-side football frenzy saw Alan and Robbie playing and managing a squad of players. Over 1,000 people took part to play a combined total of 57 hours of continuous five-a-side football – the equivalent of one club playing an entire Premier League season. Along with members of the public, the pair were joined throughout the three days by a rolling cast of well-known names from the world of sport and entertainment including Rachel Riley, Mcfly's Danny Jones, Union J's Josh Cuthbert, Comedian John Bishop, Actor and Comedian Hugh Dennis, Presenter Ore Oduba, Welsh athlete Christian Malcolm, Rapper Fatman Scoop, Actors James and Oliver Phelps, Belgian footballer Adnan Januzaj, Comedian Mark Watson, and various cast members from Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, and Coronation Street.

The Premier League has funded the cost of the pitch as part of their bigger commitment to funding football facilities throughout the UK.

The goal of the game was to raise much-needed cash for Sport Relief that will make a difference to people living incredibly tough lives, both here at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest communities.
